PA-CIWT: Strengthening livelihoods to better protect forests in Anôsy
Nitidae · October 21, 2026
On 20 and 21 October 2026, the PA-CIWT project, implemented by Nitidæ, continued to support local communities in the municipalities of Behara and Tranomaro, South Amboasary District, Anôsy Region.
Agricultural equipment to support COBA activities:
As part of the livelihood development, 50 ploughs and 200 ploughs were distributed to members of the Mahavotse COBA in Behara and COBA Mandroso in Tranomaro. Such facilities should contribute to improving agricultural production capacity and to raising the incomes of recipient households.
Monitoring of goat farming activities
The mission also conducted a monitoring visit to the Cape Verdean livestock activities previously supported by the project. The aim of this monitoring is to assess the development of activities, identify possible difficulties and assist beneficiaries in the sustainability of their income-generating activities.
Collective mobilization for forest protection:
The mission brought together a number of actors working alongside the communities, including representatives from the Anôsy Region, the DREDD Anôsy, the DRASA Anôsy, the PA-CIWT UFP, NITIDAE, the MNP, as well as members of the offices of the COBA Mahavotse and Mandroso.
Through these actions, the PA-CIWT project pursues a key objective: to sustainably improve the living conditions of communities while strengthening their commitment to protecting forests and combating illegal activities.
Since the start of the PA-CIWT project, 75% of the members have already received support. Support continues to expand income-generating activities, improve living conditions and gradually reduce dependence on forest resources.
